Outfielder Eric Byrnes will attempt to rehabilitate his torn left hamstring the old-fashioned way, without surgery, although he admitted Friday that he still might not be able to return this season. "I'm not saying I'm rehabbing to come back this year. I'm not going to rule it out. I'm just not sure how my leg is going to respond. I'm not going to be crazy. It's something I'm going to be real cautious with," Byrnes said. Arizona's Upton put on DL with strained side (AP)
The Arizona Diamondbacks placed right fielder Justin Upton on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained oblique muscle Friday night, making room for newly acquired first baseman Tony Clark. The Diamondbacks sent minor league pitcher Evan Scribner to the San Diego Padres for Clark, who played three seasons for Arizona before signing with the Padres as a free agent.

The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired first baseman Tony Clark from the San Diego Padres on Thursday for minor league pitcher Evan Scribner. Diamondbacks general manager Josh Byrnes said the team was "thrilled" to have Clark back in Arizona, where he spent three seasons and hit .266 with 53 homers and 154 RBIs.

The Arizona Diamondbacks signed left-hander Daniel Schlereth, the team's No. 1 draft pick. The team said Thursday that the 22-year-old former University of Arizona star will join Missoula, its Single-A team in the Pioneer League. Schlereth's father, Mark, played 12 seasons in the NFL with the Washington Redskins and Denver Broncos.

The Arizona Diamondbacks decided to pitch to Jayson Werth with the game on the line Friday night, and Werth was ready. Werth hit a game-ending RBI single in the 12th inning and the Philadelphia Phillies won 6-5 in a matchup of NL division leaders. Arizona RHP Gonzalez decides against surgery (AP)
Arizona Diamondbacks' pitcher Edgar Gonzalez, currently on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right elbow, has decided against surgery, manager Bob Melvin said on Tuesday. The right-hander had an MRI and doctors recommended that he not have surgery. "It's going to be four, six weeks before he's going to be able to play catch again," Melvin said.
