Yankees Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)
This was the type of performance the Yankees needed to start the second half. Another strong start from Mike Mussina to prove the first half wasn't a fluke. An MVP-like game from Alex Rodriguez and a solid effort from Robinson Cano at the plate. Even newcomer Richie Sexson chipped in with a hit and an RBI. It will be a long road to a playoff spot for the Yankees—as long as it's been in a while. Friday night, they took as solid a first step as they could. YANKEES 7, A'S 1: Alex Rodriguez went 3-for-4 and Robinson Cano went 2-for-4 and both players homered to lead the Yankees to a win in their first game after the break. Mike Mussina pitched six innings of one-run ball for his 12th win.
