Padres Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

Greg Maddux equaled a career-worst Friday night in St. Louis. And this time, he really had no one to blame but himself.

Maddux failed to get a win in a 13th straight start for only the second time in his career—and for the first time since 1990.

But while most of his past failures could be traced to the Padres' offense and bullpen, the responsibility for this failure was on Maddux.

A two-run homer by Jody Gerut in the top of the fourth gave the Padres a 6-3 lead. But Maddux was unable to hold the lead even through the bottom of the fourth thanks to Ryan Ludwick's three-run homer.

"First time I had a lead in a while and I made it last for what, five minutes," said Maddux.

Molina leads Cardinals to 11-7 victory over Padres (AP)

St. Louis Cardinals' Yadier Molina runs for first after hitting a two-run double in the eighth inning of a baseball game against the San Diego Padres, Friday, July 18, 2008 in St. Louis. The Cardinals won 11-7.

Yadier Molina lacks the gaudy offensive numbers of Albert Pujols, Troy Glaus and first-time All-Star Ryan Ludwick. In the clutch, however, there's nobody the St. Louis Cardinals would rather have at the plate. "I just think he's immune to pressure," manager Tony La Russa said after Molina's two-run single with the bases loaded broke an eighth-inning tie in an 11-7 victory over the San Diego Padres.

Peavy allows 4 solo homers in loss to St. Louis (AP)

St. Louis Cardinals' Rick Ankiel, right, runs past San Diego Padres third baseman Kevin Kouzmanoff, left, while rounding the bases on a solo home run during the fourth inning of a baseball game Thursday, July 17, 2008, in St. Louis. The Cardinals won 4-3.

Jake Peavy hopes he gave up four homers in a game for the last time. His manager is sure of it. Troy Glaus homered twice and Rick Ankiel and Joe Mather added solo shots of their own to help the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Padres 4-3 Thursday night. "I'm going to go on the record and say that'll never happen again in Jake's career," Padres manager Bud Black said.

Campillo, McCann key Braves' 12-3 rout of Padres (AP)

San Diego Padres manager Bud Black paces in the dugout while his team gets beat 12-3 by the Atlanta Braves in their baseball game Sunday, July 13, 2008, in San Diego. The Padres go into the all-star break having lost 19 of their last 26 games.

All-Star catcher Brian McCann says he likes being "locked in." His Atlanta Braves teammates like him that way, too. McCann homered and drove in three runs to help the Braves rout the San Diego Padres 12-3 on Sunday in the rubber game of the three-game series. McCann, who made the All-Star team for the third time, extended his on-base streak to eight straight plate appearances.

Atlanta Braves Brent Lillibridge watches the flight of a solo home run hit off of San Diego Padres pitcher Joe Thatcher in the ninth inning of a baseball game Saturday, July 12, 2008 in San Diego. The Braves won 4-1.

Jeff Francoeur has felt comfortable ever since his brief trip to the minors. Pads win on Hairston's hits, Peavy's pitching (AP)

San Diego Padres pitcher Jake Peavy, right, is congratulated by manager Bud Black after the Padres 4-0 victory over the Atlanta Braves in their baseball game Friday, July 11, 2008, in San Diego. Peavy went seven innings, allowed only four hits and struck out seven.

Pitching at home sure has its benefits for Jake Peavy. The San Diego Padres' ace made quick work of the Atlanta Braves on Friday night, then hustled out as quickly as possible to catch a Toby Keith concert. "I should have been a cowboy," quipped Peavy, a good ol' boy from Alabama. "If I get there in time, I get to see Toby sing a little bit." Backed by a triple and double by hot-hitting Scott...

Olsen throws 8 strong innings, Marlins beat Padres (AP)

Florida Marlins closer Kevin Gregg, right, and catcher John Baker congratulate each other after the Marlins' 5-2 victory over the San Diego Padres in a baseball game Wednesday, July 9, 2008, in San Diego.

Scott Olsen came within three outs of stopping a record streak the Florida Marlins would rather forget. Olsen pitched eight strong innings and appeared to be on his way to Florida's first complete game in 267 tries, the longest drought in major league history. But the left-hander was lifted for a pinch-hitter in the ninth as the Marlins added a couple of insurance runs Wednesday for a 5-2 victory...

Florida Marlins center fielder Cody Ross slides across the outfield grass after catching a hit by San Diego Padres' Nick Hundley in the eighth inning of a baseball game Tuesday, July 8, 2008 in San Diego.

The Portland Padres? The San Diego Beavers? Looking decidedly like the Triple-A Portland Beavers, the San Diego Padres came up with a nifty big league result Tuesday night, beating the Florida Marlins 10-1 to snap a nine-game home losing streak. Rookie Chase Headley, playing in his 20th big league game this season, had his best performance yet with three hits and four RBIs, including a three-run...

Florida Marlins catcher Paul Hoover, right, congratulates Kevin Gregg after the Marlins' 3-1 victory over the San Diego Padres in a baseball game Monday, July 7, 2008 in San Diego.

With the exception of one pitch, Greg Maddux was his usual efficient self. It still wasn't enough for Mad Dog, who's gone 11 starts and nearly two months since winning a game. Jorge Cantu hit a two-run homer off the 42-year-old Maddux, which was enough to carry Ricky Nolasco and the Florida Marlins to a 3-1 victory over the San Diego Padres on Monday night.
