The Celtics very much wanted to retain James Posey, a key reserve on the championship squad, but they were outbid by the New Orleans Hornets. Posey moved to the Big Easy to take a four-year, $25 million contract, according to his agent. "We place value on players," Boston general manager Danny Ainge said before Posey's deal was announced. "We try to maximize a player's talent and their value as we manage our business. So we have a number of what we think are good deals for the Celtics out there, and that's what we're trying to do. "We can't get caught up in chasing players and getting into a bidding war. Basketball great Bill Russell is working on a memoir about his friendship with the late Red Auerbach, the Boston Celtics coach for whom Russell starred on a long run of championship teams. "Red and Me" will be published by HarperCollins in Spring 2009. "Arnold Jacob Auerbach passed on Oct. 28, 2006 -- almost 50 years from when I joined his Boston Celtics," Russell said Monday in a statement.
