Mavericks Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

Preparation has begun for a number of hopefuls looking to hook on with the Mavericks next season. The spots are more secure for some than others, as the summer league season gets underway.

"There are a lot of things that can happen between now and the end of October," coach Rick Carlisle said. "I lived it firsthand as a third-round pick that unexpectedly made it."

The team will play 11 games total at the NBA Summer League (Las Vegas) and Rocky Mountain Revue (Salt Lake City) from July 11-25. Carlisle's assistant Dwane Casey will coach the Vegas entry. He will be assisted by Terry Stotts, Mario Elie and Popeye Jones.

The summer league team is rich with NBA talent, leading Carlisle to joke that Casey shouldn't lose a game.

The Dallas Mavericks re-signed former Texas A&M standout guard Antoine Wright on Friday and also signed guard Keith McLeod and forward James Singleton Terms of the deals weren't released. Wright played two seasons with New Jersey before he was acquired by the Mavs on Feb. 19 as part of the deal that also brought Jason Kidd to Dallas.

DeSagana Diop signed a five-year, $31 million deal with the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday, six months after Dallas sent him to New Jersey in the Jason Kidd trade. The Mavericks used their entire midlevel exception in their second free-agent deal with Diop since 2005. A lottery pick in Cleveland, Diop struggled before joining Dallas.

Charles Barkley enters celeb poker event in Vegas (AP)

Charles Barkley is headed back to the tables in Las Vegas to play in a poker tournament about a month after pledging not to gamble. He says it's all for charity.
