Nuggets Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)
With the Nuggets' payroll for 2008-09 not only exceeding the salary cap but also the luxury-tax threshold, the team made a bold move to gain financial flexibility. Center Marcus Camby, one season removed from winning the NBA's defensive player of the year award, was dealt to the Clippers for nearly no return. All the Nuggets received was the right to exchange second-round draft picks with the Clippers in 2010. The deal will save the Nuggets up to $22.5 million this year, depending on bonus money Camby could earn. And Denver receives a $10 million trade exception that will be in effect for one year. Camby, who averaged 9.1 points in 79 games last season, led the NBA in blocks per game for the third season in a row, averaging 3.61.
