Last offseason, they completed the trade for Mike James they nearly pulled off before the trade deadline. That move did not bring the help they thought and by this season's trade deadline, they moved James again. This season, they signed guard Brent Barry, having had the unusual experience of pursuing him in February before chasing him again in the offseason. Barry had become a free agent when he was traded to the SuperSonics and released, but chose to return to the Spurs rather than the Rockets.
