None of the activity necessarily guarantees improvement, but the Kings have certainly been active in the past few weeks.

They added three young talents in the draft, most notably Rider forward Jason Thompson (No. 12 pick). The big man could help with the rebounding issue (the Kings were 29th in the league on the glass), and he is seen by the organization as the eventual running mate of center/2007 draft pick Spencer Hawes on their frontline of the future.

The Kings also drafted Sean Singletary in the second round out of Virginia (No. 42), having coveted the scoring point guard as a hoped-for backup. They also acquired Patrick Ewing Jr. out of Georgetown, with the forward's game nothing like his legendary father's but the Kings nonetheless hoping his athleticism and defense...

Kings C Miller suspended for drug breach (AP)

Brad Miller of the Sacramento Kings was suspended for five games by the NBA on Thursday because the center violated the league's drug program. Miller's ban will begin with the first game of the 2008-09 season. "I want to apologize to my family, teammates, fans and the entire Kings organization," Miller said in a statement released by the Kings.

Kings re-sign Beno Udrih to 5-year deal (AP)

The Sacramento Kings re-signed point guard Beno Udrih on Wednesday, keeping Mike Bibby's successor with a five-year deal. The $32 million contract pleased both Udrih and coach Reggie Theus, who said he made a strong recommendation to top executive Geoff Petrie to keep Udrih. He averaged 12.8 points, 4.3 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 32 minutes in 65 games with the Kings.

Brand signed with the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday, the biggest move on the first day NBA deals could be completed. Kings sign first-round pick Thompson (AP)

The Sacramento Kings signed first-round pick Jason Thompson on Tuesday. Thompson, a forward-center from Rider, was the 12th overall pick in last month's draft. He will make about $3.9 million in the first two years of his deal, with two years of team options worth more than $5.1 million. Thompson finished a four-year career at Rider with averages of 16.7 points, 9.6 rebounds and 1.9 blocks.
