Pats not overly concerned by poor exhibition games (AP)
The New England Patriots played poorly on offense in their first exhibition game. The offense and defense were shaky in the second game. It's only the preseason, so there are no signs of panic in their locker room, even with Tom Brady limited by a foot injury. Yet a team that was a perfect 18-0 before losing the Super Bowl certainly doesn't like the trend.

Patriots cut veteran tight end Marcus Pollard (AP)
The New England Patriots released 13-year veteran tight end Marcus Pollard on Tuesday. They also signed rookie tight end Tyson DeVree, who joins Benjamin Watson, David Thomas and Stephen Spach at that position. Pollard signed with the Patriots on April 23 after being released by Seattle, where he spent one season.

Former Patriots owner Orthwein dies (AP)
James Busch Orthwein, the former New England Patriots owner who played a role in the Rams move to St. Louis, has died. He was 84. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch said Orthwein died Friday at his home in Huntleigh after a long battle with cancer. Orthwein bought the Patriots in 1992 and sold them to Robert Kraft two years later.

The New England Patriots signed offensive lineman Stephen Sene and released wide receiver Chris Dunlap on Thursday. Sene was released by St. Louis on July 28 after the Rams signed him as an undrafted free agent from Liberty. He spent two seasons at South Carolina then transferred to Dodge City Community College before starting the past two seasons at tackle for Liberty.

The New England Patriots signed veteran cornerback Ade Jimoh on Wednesday to bolster a position that has been depleted by injuries and free agent losses. Jimoh played four seasons with the Washington Redskins after being signed in 2003 as a rookie free agent.
