Seahawks Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

The Seattle Seahawks are going to have a very difficult decision to make regarding rookie running back Justin Forsett, a seventh-round choice from California.

It would be one thing if Forsett had had only a good week of practice and one good game. Then, the coaches could waive him off as a one-hit wonder.

But Forsett has been perhaps the best player in training camp. He led the team in rushing in its intrasquad scrimmage and its second preseason game and would have led the team in rushing in its first preseason game had he not been thrown for a four-yard loss on the Seahawks' final offensive play of the game.

Here are the issues with Forsett: He is small. Though he is listed at 5-8, 194, he is more like 5-6.

Hasselbeck still out (AP)

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck did not practice again because of a stiff back on Wednesday, and he may also miss his second consecutive preseason game against San Diego. Coach Mike Holmgren is trying to ensure Hasselbeck is ready for the regular-season opener Sept. 7 at Buffalo. "Absolutely your starting quarterback has to be ready for the first regular-season game," Holmgren said...

Orton outplays Grossman, Bears lose in OT, 29-26 (AP)

Seattle Seahawks running back Justin Forsett, center, is greeted by Seahawks quarterback Charlie Frye, right, after Forsett, who lost a shoe on the play, scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter, Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008, in an NFL football preseason game at Qwest Field in Seattle. The Seahawks went on to beat the Bears 29-26 in overtime.

Bloodied and bandaged, Rex Grossman now seems baffled about his fight for the Bears' quarterback job. Grossman started and completed 9 of 15 passes with one interception in a harried, sputtering quarter and a half before Kyle Orton led Chicago to a field goal during a crisp two-minute drill in the Bears' 29-26 overtime loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday night.

Trufant's terrific life (AP)

In this Jan. 3, 2008, file photo, Seattle Seahawks cornerback Marcus Trufant takes part in a television interview following practice drill in Kirkland, Wash. A year ago, Trufant was drifting, not sure where his next paychecks might be coming from, but now he is a Pro Bowl cornerback and owner of a $50 million contract from his hometown team.

The only bad move Seattle Seahawks cornerback Marcus Trufant has made recently was charging at burly teammate T.J. Duckett in practice. The powerful Duckett outweighs Trufant by more than 50 pounds. He dropped his shoulders after a catch and hit the cornerback, causing Trufant's contact lens to be popped out of his left eye, through his facemask and onto the practice field.

Taylor set to take Engram's spot with Seahawks (AP)

The last thing Courtney Taylor needs is a reminder that he's young and inexperienced. He reads or hears it anytime somebody mentions that the Seattle Seahawks' young wide receivers are being called upon to grow up fast this season. "We understand that we are young. We understand that we don't have the experience.

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Bobby Engram will miss six to eight weeks with a cracked bone in his right shoulder sustained on the first play of Friday's preseason game against Minnesota, adding to the injuries on offense for the defending four-time NFC West champions. "It was a freak deal," coach Mike Holmgren said Monday, adding Engram remained in the game.

Hasselbeck, Seahawks, gash Vikings defense (AP)

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Tarvaris Jackson throws during the first half of a football game against the Seattle Seahawks, Friday, Aug. 8, 2008 in Minneapolis. Jackson completed eight of eleven passes for 118 yards as Seattle won 34-17.

The Minnesota Vikings spent plenty of money to upgrade their defense in the offseason, giving defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier all kinds of flavors to work with. They kept things simple in their preseason debut on Friday night, and Matt Hasselbeck and the Seattle Seahawks had no problem with that.

All eyes on Vikings QB, Seahawks C in opener (AP)

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Tarvaris Jackson watches the crowd after throwing a toy football to fans during football training camp in Mankato, Minn., Friday July 25, 2008. Jackson gets his first chance of the preseason to show that he is ready to lead the Vikings offense when Minnesota hosts the Seattle Seahawks in the preseason opener for both teams on Friday night, Aug. 8.

Tarvaris Jackson has heard the questions all summer long and all throughout training camp. Are you ready to lead the Minnesota Vikings to the playoffs? Have you improved from your first season as a starting quarterback? What about the doubters who say the Vikings are a quarterback away from being a contender in the NFC?

No, Seahawks owner Paul Allen did not arrange for the seaplane and bald eagle to fly over Seattle's practice. The soaring symbols in the sky only added to the festive atmosphere Wednesday as the team christened its palatial practice facility on the shore of Lake Washington, south of Seattle. "It's all good.

Seahawks' Gray retires (AP)

The last day of Chris Gray's unsung career was the first day he got star treatment. "So this is what (Matt) Hasselbeck goes through every day," the invaluable yet relatively anonymous Seahawks offensive lineman joked as he sat in front of cameras and microphones Monday to announce he was retiring on the eve of his 16th NFL season.

Seahawks starters sit out scrimmage (AP)

Mike Holmgren said what about 10,000 fans had just seen. "This was a little different scrimmage than we've had in the past," Holmgren said Saturday, after his 10th and final training camp scrimmage as Seahawks coach. It's already been a little different kind of summer for Seattle. Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck was in for three plays Saturday and then watched the only full-scale scrimmage before...

Weaver entrenched with Seahawks (AP)

Leonard Weaver was singing. Again. Not in the locker room. Or the shower. Or his house, his church or on the visits he still enjoys with former Seattle teammate Shaun Alexander. The Seahawks' devout starting fullback was belting out the gospel song "Oh Happy Day" while on the sidelines during practice Thursday morning.

Gutekunst is Seahawks' German guest (AP)

Samuel Gutekunst is half a world away from home and his long-distance -- really long-distance -- girlfriend of the last three years. The native of Karlsruhe, Germany, hasn't been getting in scrimmages during Seahawks training camp. He won't be in any regular-season games. Yet for him, this is sagenhaft -- fabulous.

Kerney an alternative healer (AP)

Patrick Kerney was already coming off shoulder surgery. Then, as he was beginning to ease into Seahawks training camp last weekend, he injured his calf. The Pro Bowl defensive end will be out indefinitely, to "shut him down and let him heal," Seattle coach Mike Holmgren said Monday. That means more time for Kerney in his $1,200 hyperbaric chamber and on silver-lined "earthing" sheets.

Seattle's T.J. Duckett still trying to find spot (AP)

Finding himself stuck in a crowd is nothing new to T.J. Duckett. It happened in Atlanta. And in Washington. And Detroit, too. Guess what? Nothing has changed now that Duckett's in Seattle. He's again stuck in a group of running backs, each trying to stand out and earn time on the field. "You always want the ball in your hands, but at the end of the day it comes down to victories," Duckett said.

AP source: Seahawks give Jackson $6.1M guaranteed (AP)

Lawrence Jackson needed a new truck. His was 12-years old, broken down. The window wouldn't go up. The seat belt didn't work. Now he's got a new ride. Jackson, the speedy defensive end and first-round pick of the Seahawks out of Southern California, signed just minutes before Seattle's first practice of training camp Friday morning.
